Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between therapy and Change Facilitation?

Therapy is often a long-term process in which a client works with a licensed healthcare professional to address and resolve problematic beliefs, behaviors, or emotional challenges. Therapy frequently focuses on understanding past traumas and relationships to work through painful emotions and promote healing.

In contrast, Change Facilitation is a forward-focused process designed to help you clarify goals, align values, and release patterns that no longer serve you. While we acknowledge the impact of past experiences, our emphasis is on the present and future—helping you explore the “now” and the “how.” By reflecting on the lessons of the past, we guide you in cultivating new behaviors and strategies that align with your authentic self and aspirations.

A Change Facilitator works alongside you to uncover your strengths, support your vision, and hold you accountable as you navigate meaningful transitions. While we are not a replacement for therapy, we offer complementary tools and techniques that empower you to move forward with clarity and purpose.

Certain issues may require a medical or psychological referral, and we always encourage seeking the support of a qualified therapist or healthcare provider when necessary.

How long is a Change Facilitation session for individuals?

A Breakthrough Session is generally between 6-8 hours long, and can be facilitated over two half-day sessions. We then generally schedule two 45-60 minute follow-up session, at no additional cost, to check in on tasks agreed upon in the session, address any questions/experiences, and guide any additional techniques that will help you achieve success.

An initial Hypnotherapy Session is approximately 90 minutes long, with any subsequent sessions between 45-60 minutes in length. During the initial session we will have an in depth conversation to understand what specific challenges you are currently dealing with, what you feel the blocks are, and what your desired outcome is. Your New Heights Clinical Hypnotherapist will also provide you with a detailed description of how hypnotherapy works and what you should expect to feel and experience while in hypnosis. The time it takes for each client to go into a deep state of relaxation varies on the client’s history of accessing this state. We will spend as much time as needed to ensure you are comfortable and relaxed before we proceed to providing suggestions and tools to reach your desired outcomes.

Please note, the times listed above are approximate as, for all of our programs and sessions, we customize the frequency, duration and content to meet your specific needs.

How do we meet?

All of our services can be provided virtually.

Life Coaching and Clinical Hypnotherapy are typically conducted over the phone or via video-conferencing, because it allows for greater convenience, efficiency, and confidentiality – allowing you to have the freedom to express yourself in the privacy of your own space. That being said, face-to-face coaching and hypnotherapy is just as helpful, and can actually be a lot of fun. For the initial Breakthrough Session that is part of the Life Coaching Program , we can facilitate this either in person or through video-conferencing, depending on your location and availability.

For Breakthrough Sessions, many are conducted virtually, however for clients in or able to travel to the beautiful Thompson Okanagan in British Columbia, we do accomodate in person sessions. We have also traveled to meet clients in either their home community or at a preferred travel destination including Vancouver, Montreal, and even Mexico.

If meeting in person we aim to meet in a neutral location (office space, hotel meeting room, etc.) in an effort to lessen distraction and sentiments to a space. Additional costs may be applicable for an in-person session depending on travel arrangements.

During our free initial Discovery Call we will discuss the options and logistics of how/where we will meet.

What is Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)?

Neuro Linguistic Programming (commonly referred to as NLP) is the study of subjective experiences and how they affect our behaviors. Neuro refers to your neurology, Linguistic relates to your language, and Programming combines how that neural language functions and produces our results. NLP is a realization that our language/words don’t describe the world we live in but rather determine the world we live in. The process and applications of NLP are a combination of attitude and methodology that leave behind a trail of techniques in the conscious and unconscious mind.

The application of NLP techniques and strategies during a Breakthrough Session, Coaching Session, or Hypnotherapy Session are a do with, not a do to process. This means that you are always in control and responsible for your change, and that a New Heights Coach is simply there to guide you through processes, provide you with tools, and support you to reach your desired outcomes.

What is Mental and Emotional Release®?

Mental and Emotional Release® (MER) is a clinically researched technique to help you release negative emotions like anger, fear, sadness, stress, anxiety, depression and even phobias.

MER was created by applying a therapeutic process to the concept of an internal memory storage system which allows you to work at the unconscious level and release the effects of past negative experiences in minutes rather than traditional therapy methods which can take days, months or years.

At New Heights Coaching we use the MER model as it has become widely known as the most effective method for creating quick, lasting change for an individual.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is the practice of hypnosis for therapeutic purposes, allowing you to drop beneath the rational part of your mind and address your deeper level programming that can be in conflict with your conscious mind. Hypnosis itself is a focused state of awareness where the body is fully relaxed, but the mind is awake. This state allows the clinical hypnotherapist to help guide you in communicating directly with your unconscious mind. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, and a clinical hypnotherapist is there to help you reach a deep relaxed state and provide suggestions to help you achieve your desired outcomes.

During a session you are completely alert and in full control of your mind and body while in the hypnotic state (trance). Though your body is relaxed and comfortable you can still hear, speak, and even walk around. You will never be asked to say or reveal anything you do not want to, nor do anything you do not want to do. Hypnotherapy is a way of giving you more control, not less, and at New Heights Coaching hypnosis is strictly used as a self-healing tool.

Please note, certain issues may require a medical or psychological referral. New Heights Clinical Hypnotherapists are not medical doctors or psychotherapists.

What's different between Change Management and Change Facilitation?

Change Management is a structured process often used within organizations to plan, implement, and monitor changes to achieve specific outcomes. It involves strategies, tools, and techniques to ensure that changes are effectively executed, focusing on timelines, budgets, and measurable results. Change Management is typically more directive, with a clear emphasis on achieving organizational objectives.

Change Facilitation, on the other hand, emphasizes the human side of change. It is a collaborative process that supports individuals and teams in navigating transitions by addressing thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors that may impact the change process. Rather than focusing solely on outcomes, Change Facilitation creates space for reflection, engagement, and alignment with values and aspirations.

While Change Management may address the “what” and “when” of change, Change Facilitation focuses on the “how” and “why.” It ensures that people feel supported, empowered, and connected throughout the process, making change more sustainable and meaningful.
